Complete Birding Itinerary

Arusha National Park Birding Tour Itinerary

Full-Day Private Birdwatching Safari

Arusha to Arusha National Park and Return

Begin with an early morning pickup from your Arusha hotel, lodge, residence, Arusha Airport or another agreed location.

Meet your professional safari guide and discuss your birdwatching experience, preferred pace, photography needs and any target species or bird families.

Travel in a private safari vehicle toward Arusha National Park. An early departure is recommended because bird activity is often higher during the cooler morning hours.

Arrive at the park entrance, complete registration and begin birding through montane forest and woodland habitats.

Drive slowly while listening for calls and scanning canopy, tree trunks, understory vegetation and forest edges.

Depending on season and conditions, possible forest birds may include turacos, hornbills, woodpeckers, sunbirds, flycatchers, barbets, greenbuls and other woodland species.

Continue toward the Ngurdoto area and nearby open habitats. Scan forest edges, clearings and the sky for raptors, swifts, swallows and open-country birds.

Travel toward the Momella Lakes for waterbird observation. Depending on lake conditions and seasonal movement, you may see flamingos, ducks, geese, cormorants, herons, egrets, storks, pelicans and shorebirds.

Stop at suitable observation points for identification and photography without disturbing feeding or resting birds.

Enjoy a picnic lunch at an authorized location. Casual birding may continue around the picnic area when safe and permitted.

During the afternoon, continue through grassland and woodland areas while searching for rollers, bee-eaters, shrikes, starlings, larks, pipits and birds of prey.

Wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, waterbuck, warthogs, colobus monkeys and blue monkeys may also be seen during the tour.

Leave the national park in the late afternoon and return to Arusha for drop-off at your confirmed location.
